a. 100

b. 96

c. 88  --- answer

d. 90

Solution:

using BEDMAS to determine the order of operations,

6 + 15 * 6 + 4 - √144

6 + 15 * 6 + 4 - 12

6 + 90 + 4 - 12

96 + 4 - 12

100 - 12

= 88

2. What is the value of x?

x - (1/8)x + 0.35 = 9

a. 8.98

b. 10.88

c. 8.99

d. 9.88  --- answer

Solution:

x - (1/8)x + 0.35 = 9

x - 0.125x + 0.35 = 9

0.875x = 9 - 0.35

0.875x = 8.65

x = 8.65/0.875

x = 9.88

3. Roberto works in a store with a salary of $15.25/hr. He worked 40 hours total for 5 days and 8 hours on the sixth day during a statutory holiday. If the hourly rate during a statutory holiday is twice the regular rate, how much is his total salary?

step 2:

solve holiday pay on the sixth day

= $15.25 x 8 x 2

= 122 x 2

= $244

a. 5,184

b. 8,838

c. 8,388

d. 3,888  --- answer

Solution:

length = 36 inches

width = 1/3 of length

width = 1/3 * 36

width = 36/3

width = 12 inches

height = 3/4 of width

height = 3/4 * 12

height = 36/4

height = 9 inches

Volume of box
